People Helping People (PHP) has received a $15,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation to support its 12-year-old domestic violence prevention program, Advocates for Domestic and Child Abuse Prevention (ADCAP). In partnership with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, ADCAP advocates are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to domestic violence crime scenes to provide victims with emotional support, information about the cycle of domestic violence and life style alternatives, shelter, and medical care. In other news from PHP, the board of directors and staff selected its volunteer of the year for 2009. Kros Andrade, a Buellton resident, has been named Volunteer of the Year for the nonprofit. Andrade, a graphic artist, donated hundreds of hours to PHP last year to design promotional materials for a number of PHP events. “The invitations, posters, wine labels, web designs, annual report and other materials Andrade designed not only saved PHP thousands of dollars but were extremely effective and garnered numerous ‘wow’ comments,” said Executive Director Dean Palius. “These marketing items were critical in helping PHP have a very successful fund raising year.” Andrade was chosen from more than 250 volunteers who donate more than 13,000 hours each year to PHP to help operate programs and conduct fundraising events. Andrade grew up in the Santa Ynez Valley, attended Santa Ynez High School and is a graduate of California State University, Northridge. He was the creative director for Territory Ahead and currently is the owner of Uva Design Studios in Buellton. People Helping People is a local non-profit organization furnishing a wide variety of basic needs and family support services in the Santa Ynez and Los Alamos valleys.
