Valley Community Theatre will hold auditions for Arthur Miller’s adaptation of “An Enemy of the People,” by Henrik Isben, from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 3 at the Los Olivos Grange. The Elverhoj Museum of History and Art will present a textile and fiber art workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 9 titled “About Faces.” There will be a large collection of fused fabric so that participants can explore color, texture and shapes. Create a finished piece or use the class as a jumping off place for a larger project. This workshop is suitable for the absolute novice or the advanced fabric artist. The fee is $20 for members, $28 for non-members. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required. Participants must be 16 or older. The Wildling Art Museum has a few spaces left in its call “Birds of the Santa Ynez Valley Region,” a six-week birding field course that begins Jan. 11. The class meets 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Mondays. The class will be led by ornithologist and naturalist, Dr. Fred Emerson. A $10 discount in the enrollment fee will be offered to first-time birders. The first class will meet at the Wildling Art Museum, 2928 San Marcos Avenue, in Los Olivos. Thereafter, the class will meet at different locations throughout the region, where students can study birds in different habitats. The cost for the course is $100 ($75 for museum members). Now that the Santa Barbara County Fire Department transitioned to Low Fire Season Preparedness Level, the ban on permit burning within State Responsibility Areas (SRA) and Local Responsibility Areas (LRA) within the jurisdiction of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department has been lifted. Individuals with a valid permit have resumed permitted burning in Santa Barbara County. Smoke may be visible as a result of these permitted burns. Permit burning may start at 7 a.m. and no new material may be added to the burn after noon. All burns must be extinguished by 4 p.m. Prior to issuance of a permit, all burn sites and piles will be inspected by Santa Barbara County Fire Department for compliance with the appropriate permit conditions.COUNTY
H1N1 widely available
Since Oct. 28, the Public Health Department has held 18 H1N1 community vaccination clinics, immunizing 17,000 county residents. Vaccination clinics are now open to all residents of Santa Barbara County. The H1N1 immunization is now available in South County at: Franklin Public Health Clinic, 1136 E. Montecito St. in Santa Barbara Tuesdays 8 to 11:30 a.m. and Wednesdays to 4:30 p.m.; and at the Carpinteria Public Health Clinic, 931 Walnut Ave. in Carpinteria on Thursdays from 1 to 4:30 p.m. In North County, vaccinations are available at the Lompoc Health Clinic, 301 N. R Street, Door B, Mondays 1 to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays 8 to 11 a.m.; and at the Santa Maria Health Clinic, 2115 S. Centerpointe Parkway, Wednesdays 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Fridays 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.Call for Artists
The Santa Barbara Airport is seeking artists to create and apply design elements to be incorporated in the structure of the new terminal. A request for proposals was released Dec 18 as a “Call for Artists” in three categories: Stenciling of wooden ceiling beams; Wrought iron embellishments for interior railings; and floor medallion design and installation in the rotunda of terminal’s north entrance.
