Mail theft
A 41-year-old man was booked into Lompoc jail for mail theft. Deputies conducted an investigation after victims reported the man took and opened their mail, including bank statements, and kept them in a toolbox at his work. When deputies contacted him, the man said the victims knew he had the mail in his possession and had given him permission to keep the letters. The brother of the suspect’s girlfriend also asked deputies to press charges for an earlier incident when his mail was found in the suspect’s nightstand at a residence they shared.Oct. 31
All-night party
Sheriff’s deputies were called to Alisal Cellars early Halloween morning. A neighbor reported someone appeared to be drunk and locked inside the business. Deputies arrived to find a 21-year-old man in the parking lot saying he needed to “get some fresh air” after an all-night party. Sheriff’s deputies found another 27-year-old man in a downstairs bathroom. Deputies reported that both men appeared intoxicated. The men were picked up by the bar’s owner and sheriff’s deputies filed a complaint with the district attorney’s office for a liquor law violation. The men, who were employees of Alisal Cellars, had been serving and consuming alcohol during unlawful hours.Man attacked through car window
Deputies received a report of a 45-year-old woman punching a man in the head through his open car window. The man was sitting in his parked car at the intersection of Cuesta and Pine in Santa Ynez. When deputies arrived, he confirmed the attack but did not want to press charges and did not show any signs of injury. When deputies confronted the woman, she told then she had been looking for her lost dog. When they noticed blood on her hand, they asked if she attacked the man. She said only that her dog had pulled away from her and injured her hand. Sheriff’s deputies noticed a strong smell of alcohol and took her into custody for a probation violation.Oct. 30
Bar fight
Deputies arrested a 23-year-old man at the Maverick Saloon in Santa Ynez for battery. Around two in the morning, deputies were conducting a routine bar check when the suspect threw beer on a man sitting at an outdoor table. He then punched the seated man several times. After breaking up the fight, sheriff’s deputies took the attacker into custody. Deputies said he appeared to be drunk and told them the man he hit was his boss.Oct. 29
Domestic dispute
A 24-year-old man is facing charges of battery and making terrorist threats after allegedly punching family members during a fight in their home. When deputies arrived at the home in Solvang, they observed the man threatening his family from a downstairs walkway. When deputies tried to calm him down, he threatened them saying, “Tase me and see what happens.” Eventually, he cooperated and they were able to take him into custody. The young man said he had been drinking when his parents confronted him about his alcohol and marijuana use. He said his father attacked him first and that he only punched two holes in the wall. According to a statement given by the man’s father, he hit his father in the face multiple times and punched his mother in the stomach.Oct. 28
Drug arrests at casino
Sheriff’s deputies looking for a woman suspected of drug possession ended up with three people in custody. The female suspect was arrested for possession of methamphetamines at the Chumash Casino. The woman told deputies she had been using drugs with two men. Surveillance footage was used to find the other men who were with her at the casino. After being questioned and searched, both men were charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance. Deputies found two grams of heroin on one of the men and charged him with possession of a controlled substance for sale.Obstructed view leads to arrest
A 24-year-old man was stopped in Solvang because objects hanging from his rearview mirror were blocking his view. Sheriff’s deputies discovered he was an unlicensed driver after he failed to produce any identification or proof of insurance. The suspect said he was a Mexican citizen and the car belonged to his girlfriend who allowed him to drive. He was taken into custody and the vehicle was impounded.Unlicensed driver ordered to appear
Deputies pulled over a 34-year-old man because he did not completely stop at the intersection of Baseline and Edison. The man told deputies that he was an unlicensed driver. He was cited and ordered to appear before court.Oct. 27
Marijuana found in car
Two ounces of marijuana and a glass pipe were seized after a routine traffic stop in Santa Ynez. Sheriff’s deputies stopped a car after they noticed a broken taillight. The car smelled strongly of marijuana, according to deputies. Scales, pipes and jars of marijuana were discovered after two of the passengers’ backpacks were searched. One of the men had a valid medical marijuana ID card and was not cited. The other was given a citation for possession of a controlled substance and released.Oct. 26
Unlicensed driver arrested
A 21-year-old man was stopped after he failed to slow for a school zone in Santa Ynez. He was unable to provide a drivers license. Deputies found that he had several prior citations for unlicensed driving and took him into custody.Unlicensed driver cited
Sheriff’s deputies pulled over a vehicle that did not have a rear license plate. The 23-year-old driver told deputies that he did not have a driver’s license. He was cited for unlicensed driving and released. His car was impounded.Oct. 18
Missing gates
A Los Olivos real estate agent called the sheriff’s department to report a theft at a recently foreclosed property. Someone had stolen large front entry gates from the home. The gates are valued at $3,ooo to $5,ooo.
