Refugio High School students and members of the Interact Club from the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School, in conjunction with the Stuart C. Gildren Family YMCA in Solvang, participated in a Sock Walk the week of Sept. 20 – 27.

The local YMCA participated in a nationally held event called America on the Move Week, which encouraged the community to get active. One of the events was the Sock Walk. Students collected 75 pairs of socks and donated them to the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission.

In other local YMCA news, students enrolled in the YMCA’s Youth and Government program will spend Veterans Day weekend (Nov. 13 – 15) at Camp Roberts just outside Paso Robles, to meet with 2,000 other high school students participating in the California Model Legislature and Court program.
