For week ending Jan. 22
Both largemouth and smallmouth bass made a good shoing, and most anglers were to produce limits with some work. Most fish 20 to 25 inches and taking drop shot, Texas rigs, spinnerbaits and jigs. The trout bite was fair, and trolling needlefish and Kastmasters from the surface to 15 feet in Santa Cruz Bay, Cachuma Bay and from Johnsons’ to the dam were the most productive stretches. Crappie still down in the narrows and are coming on trolled C.D. Rapalas and small spinners. Slabs up to 2.5 pounds were reported at the boat launch. Bowfishing has been an on-again, off-again affair, but should steadily get better in a couple of weeks. Except for a few incidental catfish, all others species were slow.- Ken Hemer
